Candidate Tseffos doing the work to earn your vote

If we are to ever come back from the dispiriting divisiveness in our country it’s going to take people like Emily Tseffos.

The time and effort Emily is putting into her campaign for the 56th Assembly District inspires us all. Despite it having a heavily Republican constituency, Emily has been out there working like it’s hers to win. She has knocked on more than 2,000 doors in rural Outagamie County, listening to all constituents from the reddest Republican to the bluest Democrat as she tries to find the issues that resonate in the 56th.

Emily was already aware of key issues affecting rural areas, from childcare to underfunded schools to broadband deserts. But she has taken the time to learn about other issues by visiting dairy farms, small businesses and city council meetings.

It is what democracy looks like … or should.

Meanwhile Dave Murphy is content to count on demographics to hand him back his seat without doing anything to earn the voters’ support. Last Tuesday, he was a no-show for the fourth time at the candidate forum Emily arranged. He couldn’t even be bothered to respond to her emails inviting him to these events.

Maybe he was too busy issuing press releases using the ugly anti-immigration rhetoric that has driven such a wedge in our society.

By engaging with rural voters who don’t necessarily share her views, Emily is building the bridges and planting the seeds that will be necessary to bring our country together again.
