Yee Leng Xiong was born in Wausau to Hmong refugee parents. At 19 he became the first elected Hmong official on the D.C. Everest school board, where he has served as board treasurer since 2014, and he has served on the Marathon County Board since 2016.
He led the Hmong American Center for over a decade and now directs New Beginning for Refugees. He is running for State Treasurer and would be the first Hmong American elected to statewide office anywhere in the country.
