Do-Nothing Gallagher must go

By Carol Lenz

‘ Tis the season for New Year’s resolutions. This year northeast Wisconsin needs a new representative in Congress.

‘Unproductive’ and ‘chaotic’ sums up 2023 for Congressman Mike Gallagher and the GOP House majority.

What were their accomplishments? Well ... they elected a Speaker, after 15 votes. Then they fired the Speaker. After a few more weeks of chaos, they elected a new Speaker. Then they went on vacation.

Their few legislative accomplishments included an amendment to the 1965 Federal Education Act and a commemorative coin honoring the U.S. Marine Corp’s 250th Anniversary. They also renamed a couple of veteran’s health clinics. Thanks, I guess?

Other than that, they expelled a corrupt congressman (but only one), voted to start a bogus impeachment inquiry, and failed to fund the government (their primary responsibility). And they took many more vacation days. There was no effort to work together for the benefit of the American people.

Prior to the MAGA takeover of the GOP, Congress passed bipartisan legislation that reduced drug prices, created many infrastructure projects, and jump-started American manufacturing. The economy has bounced back, inflation is normalizing, and we are near full employment. For the first time in decades, wages are increasing more than inflation. No thanks to Representative Gallagher, whose major accomplishment is posing for photos with veterans. Ironic because he voted NO on the PACT Act which extended health benefits to his fellow veterans exposed to toxic substances.

Wisconsin deserves better than Do-Nothing Gallagher in 2024.
